Let Down

Hooray!! My in-laws returned from their adventures in Hong Kong. The girls were so excited to go to Arizona to see them return. Oh the excitement--it was palpable. We left home after M1 got done with piano lessons on Wednesday and drove to my mom's house to sleep. We got up early and got to go to the airport to fly on an airplane (it was a lot better than our flights to Asia) to Pheonix. "Are we there already?" "That was fast!" All 3 Ms were excellent and behaved beautifully. My sil, N, picked us up from the airport; all 4 suitcases, the stroller, carry on bags, diaper bag. What a sight I'm sure the 4 of us travelling was. So we got to PHX the day my in-laws arrived. We had a list a mile long of things we needed to finish before we were supposed to be at the airport to pick them up. Finish the banner, make signs (each of the Ms and our niece, K, all got to make their own), make the menu/grocery shop...the list was plenty long for the amount of time we had to get to the airport.

So I suggested that in all our spare time we should bathe the girls and get them ready for pictures at Kiddie Kandids with their Chinese outfits. Great idea. Actually, it was a hit. Unfortunately, I can't get to the pictures. Technical difficulties. I'll get them eventually, I hope.

Finally we got to the airport--they were flying in on US Airways from LAX at 6:45 pm and we got to the security check just in time. We ran in signs, balloons, flags, strollers, everyone there at 6:46. Should be plenty of time to see Grammy and Granddad come up the hall, wave our flags, and shout, "WE MISSED YOU!" "WELCOME HOME!" "WE LOVE YOU!" et cetera, et cetera. Time keeps on tickin', (insert musical notes) and tickin', and tickin'. Where are they? Here we are waiting for them to come. As you can see, it was no small production. So we kept waiting--about 30 minutes later, still no sign of the in-laws. We start to get worried. Did they miss their flight? Did they sneak past us and are down at baggage claim--those sillies. So we call The Father, still at home and ask him to call the Asia Area Office in Hong Kong to make sure that they got to the airport and were ok from that end. So he calls back just as we get a call from my in-laws. The Father says, "They got on their flight just fine. They are coming in on Delta flight blah blah blah." WHAT?!? They are supposed to be on US Airways. What is going on? Apparently someone (who knows what really happened) changed the flight and neglected to tell the ride it got changed. They were on the curb in front of Terminal 2 waiting for us. But we were at Terminal 1 waiting for them. Let Down. You can see the excitement on M1's face, can't you? I mean, come on. The fiasco of getting everyone there, getting all the signs prepared, the list was really endless. And all for naught. They weren't even where they were "supposed" to be. So we all got back into cars and drove to terminal 2 just in time to see them climb into my bil's truck with all their suitcases. How exciting. We caravaned back to their house and got pictures with the banner and the grandkids, at least. Then we got to spend the next 3 days with them while they adjusted to being back in America, get over their jetlag, and hear their homecoming talks on Sunday. They did beautifully and we were all glad we could be there to support them coming home, even if we didn't get to yell and scream.
